Venezuela Regime Spying on Jews

Venezuela: the Venezuelan Jewish community is spied by SEBIN

Tuesday January 22, 2013
ANALYSIS 24, Buenos Aires
Like a movie where the infamous Soviet Stalinists known pogroms against Jews in the former USSR where they were ex KGB was responsible for drawing up lists of Jews who were then shot due to intolerance and fanaticism to this scheme like the current Bolivarian government among others, because of "all evil" in the old tactic of "necessary enemy" Venezuelan Jews, the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service, SEBIN has not noticed resorting to old practices and tactics already used over half a century ago led to the atrocities that both the Red Army and the Nazis took the lives of millions of Jews.
Nothing seems to have changed more than seventy years later to reappear in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela where we could corroborate as well as being known as the public onslaught Hugo Chavez against the Jews and the State of Israel, in practice we find files traces on the Venezuelan Jewish community made in detail about their leaders and ordinary citizens in general, no reason beyond the fact that they are Jews.
As if that were not enough, we also find that the SEBIN even resorted to members of the Arab community (some from Lebanon with the help of former Minister Tarek El Aissami) Venezuela for the purpose of forming a network of "Cooperating Patriots" (Spies and whistleblowers) to "help the revolutionary efforts of counterintelligence to detect enemies" of the regime, even to otorgárseles as prizes to the heads of these networks operating along the nation's honorary degrees SEBIN officers as award for the work done.
It is extremely serious for a government that calls itself democratic and enact employing these practices only just promoting hatred, persecution and racism in the XXI century and whose consequences are well-known.

Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012) on IMDb

It's always good to watch Indie Movies going its way from Sundance to Oscar. This
rough and though inspired Drama that shows the Poverty and Natural Disaster from the Point-of-View of a 6 year old Girl that will amaze with her narrative and courage to help his Dad and herself stand-still, despite the these Beasts that represents the Impact of Natural Disasters.

This movie is a perfect example of how much you can do with so little. The scenes of the Aurochs destroying the Village is astonishing, and the performance of  Quvenzhané Wallis make us keep watching this little piece of imagination and creativity.

However is Award's Season, and having this Movie taking with the spot of Best Director that everybody were giving already to Ben Affleck (Argo) place this movie in a kinda bitter-sweet spot. The Movie also got nods for the Screenplay, Best Actress for 9 years old Quvenzhané Wallis. The movie also is one of the 9 movies competing for Best Movie... why not 10? Who might be the 10th? Skyfall? Flight?  we'll never know.

Venezuela: HRF calls on Venezuelan authorities to release Judge María Lourdes Afiuni, publishes legal report on her case
NEW YORK (January 17, 2013) – The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) calls on Venezuelan authorities to immediately release Judge María Lourdes Afiuni both because she is wrongfully imprisoned and because her incarceration and house arrest have jointly exceeded the three-year maximum set forth under Article 230 of the Venezuelan Organic Criminal Procedure Code (VOCPC). HRF’s petition was published with a full legal report on her case, which concludes that Venezuela breached Articles 9, 10, 12, 14, and 17 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
“Afuini’s is an open and shut case that exposes the despotic nature of the Chávez regime like few others,” said HRF president Thor Halvorssen. “Judge Afiuni has withstood years of vitriol by a subservient supreme court and scores of judges that fear something similar will happen to them if they dare to let her go,” said Halvorssen.
HRF’s legal report finds that Judge Afiuni was illegally arrested on December 10, 2009, just hours after she granted a detainee with measures alternative to pre-trial detention. Her ruling was a legitimate exercise of her functions, acting in accordance with the VOCPC and a decision by the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention.
Because her decision granted these measures to a citizen whom the executive branch particularly wished to keep imprisoned, the following day, on one of President Chávez’s nationwide broadcasts, he called Afiuni a “bandit,” requested the “maximum penalty [of] 30 years in prison” for her, and instructed Attorney General Luisa Ortega and Supreme Court Chief Justice Luisa Estella Morales to keep her in jail.
During her imprisonment at the women’s prison INOF, Judge Afiuni suffered death threats, assassination attempts, and harassment by other inmates, as well as various health complications that were not treated with due diligence by the Venezuelan authorities. Judge Afiuni has been under house arrest since February 2, 2011, and her legal counsel has made the claim that she was the victim of rape while in prison.
“The rape of a prisoner is a form of torture under international law. States have the obligation to diligently investigate any rape allegations and to prosecute and punish the perpetrators,” said Javier El-Hage, HRF’s international legal director. “Instead, Venezuelan authorities have responded dismissively and aggressively, claiming that Judge Afiuni is a liar, threatening to bring a slander lawsuit against her, and refusing to diligently investigate her allegations,” said El-Hage.
HRF’s legal report concludes that, with these actions, the State of Venezuela violated: (1) the right to personal liberty of Judge Afiuni; (2) the right to due process of law; (3) the right to human dignity of all persons deprived of liberty, including the right to health and medical attention, as well as the obligation to segregate the accused and convicted; (4) its obligation to diligently investigate allegations of rape made by Judge Afiuni and prosecute and punish the perpetrators; and (5) the guarantee of stability and tenure of judges.
On May 10, 1978, Venezuela ratified the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Most recently, on September 10, 2012, Venezuela denounced the American Convention on Human Rights, in order to circumvent the jurisdiction of both the Inter-American Commission and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
The case of María Lourdes Afiuni is the eighth documented by HRF’s Caracas Nine campaign (www.CaracasNine.com), a project aimed at raising international awareness about the cases of individuals who are the targets of harassment, judicial persecution, or imprisonment for expressing critical opinions or exercising human rights against the will of the Venezuelan government.
HRF protects and promotes human rights. HRF believes that all human beings are entitled to freedom of self-determination, freedom from tyranny, the rights to speak freely, to associate with those of like mind, and to leave and enter their countries. Individuals in a free society must be accorded equal treatment and due process under law, and must have the opportunity to participate in the governments of their countries; HRF’s ideals likewise find expression in the conviction that all human beings have the right to be free from arbitrary detainment or exile and from interference and coercion in matters of conscience. HRF does not support nor condone violence. HRF’s International Council is chaired by pro-democracy activist Garry Kasparov, and includes former prisoners of conscience George Ayittey, Vladimir Bukovsky, Palden Gyatso, Mutabar Tadjibaeva, Ramón J. Velásquez, Elie Wiesel, and Harry Wu.

Venezuelan government seeks to legitimize transition through Court ruling - Venezuela - ElNuevoHerald.com

Stating that Hugo Chavez will remain chairman although no oath, the Venezuelan government has now passed a stage of crisis containment, ordering his court to give an opinion to legalize what many see as the crossing of a bridge of no return the legitimacy of the regime and taking action to intimidate the opposition.
Some opposition leaders this week called for the creation of a "Greater national strike" to protest the regime's claims, but the initiative is supported by the Bureau of Democratic Unity (MUD), an umbrella organization of the main opposition parties .
Chavez, whose health is unknown since he left to undergo further surgery in Cuba last month, should be sworn in on Thursday for a new six-year presidential term.
But his two potential heirs-Vice President and Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro and National Assembly president, Diosdado Cabello, said over the weekend that the swearing is irrelevant because Chavez and holds the position.
These statements have been made by a large segment of the opposition as an affront to the Constitution, which states on January 10 as the date for the swearing, and as an attempt to inherit the electoral mandate obtained by Chavez, at a time when the vast Most Venezuelans have not seen alive since Chavez announced his trip to Cuba last month.
Also come amid reports of the government itself that the situation is delicate Chavez and media reports that said the president suffers from a serious infection, is on life support and suffering that cancer is in a terminal state , having metastasized to the bones and various organs.
So far, the Venezuelan government has rejected calls to send a mission to assess independent physicians the true state of the head of state.
Opinion of the Court
A source with access to information told El Nuevo Herald that the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice has prepared an opinion stating that Chavez can take his new term even when not present to be sworn.
"They already have it ready. Contemplate that 10 is not a deadline for a reelected president can be sworn, I could do it at any other time, "said the source who spoke on condition of anonymity.
International scholars as a number of NGOs that monitor human rights believe that Venezuelan courts lack independence under the Chavez government, behaving as appendages of the executive.
The government claims were rejected by different sectors of the population, including the Catholic Church which described them as dangerous.
"He is in serious risk social and political stability of the nation. This is a difficult and uncertain, with features that draw a complex situation that could lead the country to a dangerous crossroads, "said the president of the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference, Diego Padrón.

WikiLeaks: Stratfor emails say Chavez betrayed FARC to appease generals

MIAMI — The extradition to Venezuela of alleged drug trafficker Walid Makled occurred in the context of an intense diplomatic chess game where President Hugo Chávez sacrificed Colombian guerrillas to capture the dangerous pawn, who kept his government in check, according to emails from a private security firm obtained by WikiLeaks.
The reports, from the private intelligence firm Stratfor, highlight the pressure applied by National Armed Forces’ high-ranking officers to push Chávez into negotiations with Colombian  President Juan Manuel Santos’ government.
Makled, accused by the United States of being “a king among the drug lords,” was extradited to Caracas in May although the Venezuelan entrepreneur also faced an extradition request from Washington.
The entrepreneur, who months before had been detained in Colombia, said in various interviews that he was willing to collaborate with U.S. authorities to avoid being extradited to his own country.
Among the various revelations offered from his prison cell, Makled acknowledged that important Chávez officials were on his payroll, including high-ranking Armed Forces officials, according to some of the more than five million emails revealed by WikiLeaks.
Makled also accused the Army of being directly involved in transporting drugs on planes that took off every day from the border state of Apure.
Those high-ranking officers feared the possibility of a trial in U.S. courts if Makled was allowed to be sent to Washington, where he could negotiate his testimony in exchange for a lighter sentence, said one of the Stratfor reports leaked by WikiLeaks.
And that fear led them to request a meeting with Chávez, said the reports by Stratfor, a company that offers risk analysis to corporate clients.
“Before Chávez supported [Henry] Rangel [Silva], Rangel and the most senior general went to Chávez and asked him, ‘Who are you going to side with?’ ” said the report about a meeting held before the Venezuelan president promoted Rangel Silva to general in chief, the highest rank available in the Venezuelan Armed Forces.
“Chávez didn’t have much choice but to do something, like his promotion, to show the rest that he wasn’t going to betray them over Makled,” added the report titled VZ/Colombia – The Stability of the Venezuelan Government and Makled.
Rangel Silva, together with Major General Clíver Alcalá Cordones, the former mayor of Caracas, Freddy Bernal, and the former chief of the Military Intelligence Department, Hugo Carvajal, as well as other government officials appear on the U.S. Treasury’s black list due to their links to terrorist and drug trafficking organizations.
Rangel Silva’s promotion apparently did little to placate the concerns generated by the possibility of Makled being sent to the United States.
Another cable, titled “Chávez Strengthens His Military Support,” indicated that the Venezuelan government turned desperate during its negotiations with Bogota.
“High-ranking members of the government may prove unwilling to gamble on Makled’s fate and could make contingency plans to protect their assets and themselves,” the report said.
“The president’s biggest fear is that such planning could destabilize his government, perhaps culminating in a coup attempt down the road,” it said.
According to the report, the concern was that Makled could offer the U.S. authorities evidence implicating high-ranking officials of the Venezuelan government in drug trafficking operations.
“Makled is thought to possess valuable recordings of transactions incriminating high-ranking members of the Venezuelan government in money laundering, drug trafficking and perhaps terrorism,” the report said.
“Given the tumult that would ensue should high-ranking members of the Venezuelan government face such serious criminal charges in a U.S. court, Caracas has pressed the Colombian government to extradite Makled to Venezuela on the grounds that he is a Venezuelan citizen.”
Another report, titled “Makled’s Threat to the Venezuelan Regime,” highlighted that Makled was also in possession of massive money laundering schemes, “which were totally out of control” and that had led to the gradual deterioration of the country’s key sectors, including food, electricity, energy and metals.
With the deepening of the deterioration in these sectors, impacting the cash flow toward state enterprises, the “intersection between money laundering and drug trafficking deepened as well,” the report said.
According to the report, Makled was in a position to offer detailed information about the interconnection of state entities with drug trafficking, besides the growing relationship of the Venezuelan government with Iran, and particularly the presence in the country, with “Chávez’s authorization,” of the Revolutionary Guard and the Qods Force, a special unit of the Revolutionary Guard.
Chávez’s government’s desperation over the possibility that Makled would end up telling his secrets to the United States gave a great advantage to the then-recently inaugurated Santos’s administration.
In fact, Makled ended up playing a key role in improving diplomatic relations between Venezuela and Colombia, which were tense during the previous Colombian administration of President Alvaro Uribe.
“When Stratfor began receiving reports of the Venezuelan military quietly shutting down Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) camps and flushing FARC members back across the border into Colombia, it was evident that Bogota was holding something big over Chávez’s head,” said the report.
