IACHR Will Demand Chavez Regime for Violations of Human Rights

N° 31/08

Washington, July 31, 2008 — The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) submitted three cases to the Inter-American Court of Human Rights during the month of July, against Peru, Venezuela, and Guatemala.

On July 11, 2008, the IACHR filed an application with the Inter-American Court against Peru in Petition No. 11.385, Kenneth Ney Anzualdo Castro. The case involves the forced disappearance, at the hands of State agents, of 25-year-old student Kenneth Ney Anzualdo Castro, an act that occurred in Callao on December 16, 1993; the subsequent lack of due diligence in the investigation, prosecution, and punishment of those responsible; and the lack of adequate reparations to the victim’s relatives. The IACHR concluded in its report on the merits that the State of Peru is responsible for violating Mr. Anzualdo’s rights to life, to humane treatment, to personal liberty, to the recognition of juridical personality, to a fair trial, and to judicial protection, as well as his family members’ rights to humane treatment, to a fair trial, and to judicial protection.

On July 25, 2008, the IACHR filed an application with the Inter-American Court against Venezuela, in Petition No. 12.554, Francisco Usón Ramírez. The facts refer to the filing of criminal proceedings under military jurisdiction against Retired General Francisco Usón Ramírez for the crime of insults to the National Armed Forces, and his subsequent sentencing to a prison term of five years and six months, as the result of statements Mr. Usón made in a television interview about matters that were controversial and in the public debate. The IACHR concluded in its report on the merits that the State of Venezuela violated Mr. Francisco Usón Ramírez’s rights to freedom of expression, to personal liberty, to a fair trial, and to judicial protection.

On July 30, 2008, the IACHR filed an application with the Inter-American Court against Guatemala, in Petition No. 11.681, Las Dos Erres. The case involves the lack of due diligence in the investigation, prosecution, and punishment of those responsible for the massacre of 251 residents of the village of Las Dos Erres, in the municipality of La Libertad, department of Petén, an act carried out by members of the Guatemalan Army between December 6 and 8, 1982. The IACHR concluded in its report on the merits that the State of Guatemala is responsible for violating the rights to life, to humane treatment, to personal liberty, to the recognition of juridical personality, to the protection of families and children, to private property, to a fair trial, and to judicial protection, with prejudice to the 251 individuals who died in the massacre of Las Dos Erres, the two survivors, and 155 relatives. The Commission values the State of Guatemala’s positive attitude in acknowledging the facts and its consequent responsibilities, as well as its efforts to seek reparations for human rights violations suffered by the victims in this case. However, it is the duty of the Guatemalan State to provide an adequate judicial response, to establish the identity of those responsible, and to prosecute and punish them accordingly.

Spanish Justice Garzón requested to examine President Chávez

(El Universal) Ramón Torregrosa, a Spanish citizen, asked National Audience renowned judge Baltasar Garzón to detain Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez during his visit to Spain next Friday.

The purpose would be questioning Chávez about the death of Torregrosa's wife, Venezuelan Maritza Ron, during the riots in Plaza Francia, following a recall referendum on August 15th, 2004.

According to the request made to judge Garzón, the Venezuelan president could provide further information on the case of Ron, who was presumably reached by a bullet shot from Chávez's followers at opponents.

William Cárdenas, a representative of NGO Democratic Platform of Venezuelans in Madrid, told Europa Press that the individuals responsible for the killing were "pro-Chávez armed gangs, financed and led by the President's Office."

Russia to Install Military Bases in Venezuelan Soil

Russian-Venezuelan high-level talks in Moscow might result in military-technical, oil deals - sources

MOSCOW. July 22 (Interfax) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will
hold talks with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez who arrived in Moscow
on a visit on Tuesday morning.
Chavez' visit will continue until July 23, a Kremlin spokesperson
said earlier. The Venezuelan president is also expected to meet with
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, who spoke to Chavez on many
occasions while being the president. It will be Chavez' first personal
meeting with Medvedev.
Chavez was last in Russia in June 2007.
During this visit the parties are expected to complete their work
on an agreement on reciprocal encouragement and protection of
investment, said Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov.
The Venezuelan president may also negotiate the purchase of Russian
"During Venezuelan President Chavez' visit to Russia new contracts
can be signed for the supply of Russian arms and military hardware to
," a source in the defense industry told Interfax.
"A number of arms contracts have already been agreed upon and could
be signed during Chavez' visit to Moscow," he said.
Venezuela is planning to buy from Russia up to 20 Tor-M1 surface-
to-air missile systems and three Varshavyanka-class diesel electric
submarines. These contracts could be worth a total of over $1 billion.
Subsequently Venezuela is planning to buy six more non-nuclear
submarines and several dozen surface vessels of various classes and
types, he said.

Russian exporters have offered to Venezuela Mirazh patrol boats of
Project 14310, Murena-E air cushion landing craft of Project 12061E,
mobile coastal missile systems capable of destroying surface vessels,
boats and landing craft at a range of between seven and 130 kilometers.
"Contracts will also be signed for the opening in Venezuela of
special technical service centers for post-sale service of the earlier
supplied weapons and military hardware
," the source said.
Talks are also being held on the of patrol aircraft based on the
Ilyushin Il-114 airplane supply to Venezuela. According to early
arrangements, Caracas is planning to buy up to 20 airplanes of this
Russia has also received from Venezuela a request for the purchase
of Mi-28N helicopters, which cannot be supplied before the second half
of 2009. According to independent experts, ten Mi-28N combat helicopters
could be supplied to Caracas at the initial stage.
100,000 Kalashnikov assault rifles in the new AK-103 modification
have already been supplied to Venezuela
under earlier contracts worth a
total of around $4 billion, the official said. Two factories are also
being built for the licensed assembly of Russian assault rifles and the
production of related ammunition. Also, 24 multi-purpose Su-30MK2
fighters and around 50 Russian helicopters, including 34 Mi-17V, ten Mi-
35M and three Mi-26T, are being successfully supplied to Venezuela under
a contract
In accordance with the program for re-armament of the Venezuelan
Army until 2012, Caracas is planning to spend over $30 billion for the
purchase of weapons and military hardware, the source said.

Russian could grant a loan of about $800 million to Venezuela to
finance the arms purchases, Russian media outlets said.

The visit by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to Russia proves
Moscow's plans to increase its economic presence in Latin America, said
Vyacheslav Nikonov, a political scientist.
"Russian influence in Latin America has really strengthened since
we started paying attention to this region," he said. The key aspect of
the visit is the expected signing of contracts for the supply of Russian
arms for the Venezuelan army, he said.
Moreover, it is very important for Chavez to meet personally the
new Russian president, said Nikonov. "I understand that it will be
important for him to establish a personal contact with President
Medvedev," the political scientist said.
"The United States will certainly have a negative view of this
visit, like of any other foreign contact of Hugo Chavez, who is a source
of great annoyance for Washington," he said.
Meanwhile, a source in Lukoil told Interfax that the company
management is planning to discuss matters related with it's continued
operations in Venezuela with Chavez. In particular, the parties will
talk about the completion of the assessment and certification of the
Junin-3 field and further steps in this project
, he added.
It was expected that Lukoil and the Venezuelan state-owned company
PdVSA will set up a joint venture to develop the Junin-3 field situated
in the Orinoco Heavy Oil Belt in the eastern part of the country. The
company planned to complete the talks on the joint venture in 2007.
Lukoil chief Vagit Alekperov said in late June that the company is
not planning to leave Venezuela, despite delays in the signing of
contracts under oil production projects.
A source in TNK(RTS:TNKO)-BP told Interfax that the company is also
planning to meet with members of the Venezuelan delegation. TNK-BP said
earlier that it was interested in working in Venezuela.
In 2007, TNK-BP signed an agreement with PdVSA on joint
certification and assessment of the Ayacucho Block 2 in the estuary of
the Orinoco river. If both parties remain satisfied with the results of
their cooperation, they could decide to set up a joint venture. TNK-BP
chief Robert Dudley said that the assessment of the Ayacucho Block 2 is
a very complicated project, as the oil there is very heavy. Everything
is still at the initial stage and a decision as to whether to carry out
this project will not be made earlier than 2009, Dudley said. Total
investment in the project could total several billion dollars, he said.
At the same time, Gazprom's subsidiary Gazpromneft, which
repeatedly stated that Latin America was one of its promising business
opportunities, is not planning any formal meetings with the Chavez
Zarubezhneft, which also sees a potential in the Latin American
mineral resources, would not speak to Interfax about possible meetings
with Venezuelans in Moscow

Hugo Chavez using Children as Political Tool

An image worth thousands words

Milka Duno vs Danica Patrick

Venezuela car racer Milka Duno confronted US Danica Patrick in the latest practice for the next competition. Is already known about Danica crashing her car on the pits... eh, I mean, searching for his competitors to fight with them, blaming them about some accident .

Well, this time, Milka Duno, decided to confront her, and, like many of the Caracas born citizens with strong attitude, even throwing her a tissue on her face.

I know, she said already she is not a Hugo Chavez supporter, but that's the classic attitude of a Chavez Supporter.

Venezuela Millitary Chopper Crashed in Bolivia

A Venezuelan military helicopter, with 4 Venezuelan soldiers, and 1 Bolivian crashed in the Bolivian zone known as Cochabamba.

The plane was one of the 2 Super Puma, Hugo Chavez borrowed to Bolivian President Evo Morales, to use them in occasional travels. Fortunately, Bolivian President wasn't on the plane.
The plane's cause of sinister is unknown.

President Evo Morales sent condolences to Hugo Chavez, while this SOB said this 4 soldiers are 'Martyrs of the Revolution'. Martyrs of the Revolution???, it was an accident, and what they were doing in Bolivia anyway? as Venezuela's Opposition already ask to Chavez.

What kind of bizarre business Hugo Chavez and Evo Morales are doing that involves a high presence of Venezuelan's Military Men and Aircrafts to that country... or maybe is Chavez under knowledge of what happend to this soldiers?.

Human Rights Foundation Launches “Tell Chávez” Campaign for Venezuela’s Political Prisoners

Human Rights Foundation Launches “Tell Chávez” Campaign for Venezuela’s Political Prisoners

NEW YORK (July 18, 2008) -- Raúl Díaz is an engineering student who spent four years in prison awaiting trial on false charges. Humberto Quintero is a lieutenant jailed for capturing a high-profile FARC guerilla leader. Iván Simonovis is an imprisoned police commissioner denied urgent medical care despite several court orders authorizing hospital visits. They are political prisoners of the Venezuelan government.

The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) launches its “Tell Chávez” campaign today—www.TellChavez.com—to raise global awareness of the existence and suffering of political prisoners in Venezuela. Despite an amnesty law signed by President Hugo Chávez in December of 2007, that purportedly ensured that no Venezuelan would be imprisoned for political reasons, Venezuelans are continually subjected to political persecution, imprisonment, torture and other cruel and degrading treatment for disagreeing with or opposing the government. Many of these prisoners are being held in inhumane conditions without access to medical care. Outside of Venezuela’s prisons, “political inhabilitation” has been used by the government to disqualify 400 potential candidates for office, among them, those who appear to be favorites in the upcoming November elections.

The “Tell Chávez” site includes information about the cases of Francisco Usón, Otto Gebauer, Humberto Quintero, Iván Simonovis, Lázaro Forero, Henry Vivas, and Raúl Díaz—all of whom were imprisoned by the Venezuelan government on trumped-up charges in cases with manifest due process violations.

The campaign website provides information about each case with the aim of increasing public awareness about political persecution in Venezuela. Further, the website also includes a short video and invites the public to send email letters, addressed to President Chávez, to representatives of the Venezuelan government demanding the immediate release of political prisoners, respect for human rights treaties, and an end to political persecution.

HRF is an international nonpartisan organization devoted to defending human rights in the Americas. It centers its work on the twin concepts of freedom of self-determination and freedom from tyranny. These ideals include the belief that all human beings have the rights to speak freely, to associate with those of like mind, and to leave and enter their countries. Individuals in a free society must be accorded equal treatment and due process under law, and must have the opportunity to participate in the governments of their countries; HRF’s ideals likewise find expression in the conviction that all human beings have the right to be free from arbitrary detainment or exile and from interference and coercion in matters of conscience. HRF’s International Council includes former prisoners of conscience Vladimir Bukovsky, Palden Gyatso, Armando Valladares, Ramón J. Velásquez, Elie Wiesel, and Harry Wu.

LOST ARG: Response from Octagon

Hi everyone, I want to break a little the style of the blog to share a little bit of one of my passions... LOST. Some months ago I posted about the launching of a new Lost ARG (Alternate Reality Game) that will introduces us to the upcoming season next September.

If you visited
Octagon Site by that time you would found that they were 'recruiting' people for the company.

Well I received an e-mail today, that basically is to inform about a meeting for the recruitment drive that will be at Comic-Con in San Diego, California. Why Comic-Con, well J.J. Abrams is a well-known assistant to that event, especially for all the projects he has been doing (Cloverfield, Fringe, new Star Trek movie, and of course LOST). Is precisely in the Comic-Con where the ARG will be officially launched, I was suposedly invited with this e-mail, but unfortunately I can't assist, so enjoy the fun if you are one of the lucky ones that will assist the event... Don't forget to go to Booth 3529!!!
Below is the content of the e-mail;

Octagon Global Recruiting, on behalf of the Dharma Initiative, is pleased to announce that Dharma's Head of Recruiting, Mr. Hans Van Eeghen, has confirmed his availability for the launch of our latest recruiting drive at Comic-Con 2008.
"My colleagues at Octagon Global Recruiting assure me that Comic-con hosts some of the brightest minds in the country," said Mr. Van Eeghen. "As Head of Recruiting it is my intention to personally assess the very best of this talent in the hope that they may join us."
The Dharma Initiative will be conducting eligibility assessments at Booth 3529 at Comic-Con, San Diego between July 24th - 27th.
If you are attending Comic-Con and would like to submit your name for a randomly selected drawing to secure one of ten (10) pre-release appointments with one of our recruiting officers, please click here.
The volunteer eligibility assessment will be available online from July 28th for a limited time at www.dharmawantsyou.com
The Dharma Initiative hopes you will spread the word. Invite your friends to join the team at www.octagonglobalrecruiting.com
If you can't view the images in this email please click here

And of you know J.J. Abrams, and if you participate in others Lost ARG, sure you'll know that's not all. Hidden in the e-mail code is this:

…If you’re reading this, wanna hear something cool? I’ve got intel about his little “recruitment drive.” They’re doing some kind’ve personality/IQ testing or something down in SD for ComicCon. Buddy of mine works down there and has the approvals for their “booth,” he says once you go in no one knows what happens inside and you need an appointment to get in. He also said to make sure you’ve got your Bluetooth on and visible – he’s rigged up a little something.

The whole thing sounds like elitist B.S., doesn’t it? Well, I’m getting in that booth and taking the test. As many times as I have to before I “pass” (whatever that means?) And then… If I can? I’m gonna tape it so EVERYONE can see what these idiots are up to. Should be fun, right? See ya in SD. RuckusGuy OUT.

So, you heard RuckusGuy, if you attend Comic-Com, pass to the Booth and be sure to turn on your bluetooth device, sure you will receive some message regarding Octagon or Dharma.

I can't brag and say I found that (I wish), this is thanks to the guy in this blog: http://www.lostargs.com/ that's your reference for everything about Lost ARG's

Caribbean Pirate Attack and the Hero Dog

'Kankuntu, hero dog was left for dead, but survived' .
Two British cruising sailors have told how they were attacked and robbed by armed pirates as they sailed about two miles off the coast of Venezuela heading from the Venezuelan island of Margarita to Trinidad, on a round-the-world adventure.

Peter Lee, 61, rammed his pursuers in a bid to knock them off their boat as it came alongside his 41ft yacht but the pirates managed to scramble on board after firing several shots at him.

The couple's dog then furiously attacked the men, biting and snapping at them, until one of them shot and stabbed the animal between the shoulder blades, leaving him for dead.

Mr Lee and his wife Betty, 57, who are originally from Stockport, were two years into their adventure aboard their £65,000 yacht, Raven Eye, when they encountered the pirates last Saturday evening.

Margarita - couple were sailing east towards Trinidad - .. .
Mr Lee said they were sailing through choppy waters about two miles off the coast of Venezuela when he saw a battered, unmarked fishing boat speeding towards them.

As they approached, one of the five men aboard fired a shot at him but he still decided to ram them and try to get away.

It was only after a second shot whistled past his head that he realised he would not be able to outrun their speedy vessel.

Recalling the terrifying ordeal, Mr Lee said yesterday: 'I wasn't going to give up just like that. I steered my boat into them broadside on and knocked their leader off his feet as he was about to jump on board.

'He fell back into the boat but then he got up and took a proper stance and took his pistol out and held it with both hands and shot at me.'

As they braced themselves for the worst, five men, mostly in their late 20s, boarded the yacht.

Their leader, a man in his 50s, ordered Mr Lee to be tied up. 'I was bound by my hands and feet, face down on the deck, with a hand on my shoulder and a gun to the back of my head and then three of them went down below and held a pistol to my wife's face, which was very, very upsetting for her,' he said.

It proved too much for the couple's two-year-old hunting dog, called Kankuntu, which they had picked up in Gambia not long into their voyage.

Kankuntu launched himself at the pirates until one of the men raised his pistol and fired. 'The dog had a real good go but they shot him and they stabbed him between the shoulder blades,' said Mr Lee. 'He's a very brave dog. He only weighs about 50lb but he thinks he's a lion.'

Badly injured, Kankuntu managed to drag himself under a table and the pirates turned their attention back to Mrs Lee, demanding money.

But the couple had little cash on board, less than UKP150 in the pockets of their clothes, so the pirates tried to tug off Mrs Lee's wedding ring.

Because the ring had never left her finger in 35 years of marriage, it would not budge. As blood poured from her torn finger, the men abandonedthe attempt and looked for anything else of value.

Back on deck, Mr Lee listened as they tore the boat apart, grabbing equipment worth about £3,000.

'I was wondering how long it was going to go on,' he said. 'I thought that as long as I lay down and didn't do anything stupid then hopefully they would leave when they had what they wanted. It seemed it was only a few seconds later and they were gone.'

Mrs Lee, still in a state of shock, was convinced that the pirates had thrown her husband overboard but was soon reassured.

’We’ll go on’ says British Skipper - .. .
Mr Lee said: 'I hobbled back to the cockpit and sat on the steps leading down below and said, 'Come on, old girl, get yourself together now and get me untied'.

'So she quickly untied me and then it was, 'Come on, put the jolly kettle on and let's have some tea and get back up and running again.'

'This is what you have to do. I'm just an ordinary working man but I'm British as well.'

The couple, who have three children - Simon, 34, Christian, 32, and Katie, 29 - own a property business in Manchester, although Mr Lee retired five years ago, which was when they bought Raven Eye.

The couple, who began their voyage in March 2006, had set out from the island of Margarita off the coast of Venezuela the day before the attack and were travelling about two miles offshore when the pirates struck.

'They were obviously lying in wait for us,' Mr Lee said. 'One of them was dressed in military uniform hoping that would make us stop but we didn't fall for that one.'

He had noticed that their traditional 24ft long Venezuelan fishing boat had no markings and was in poor condition, unlike the well-cared-for boats used by the local fishermen. 'It was obvious they were pirates.'

After the raiders left, the couple found they had taken most of their communication equipment and even their compass. But they had been unable to remove the GPS navigation system, allowing the Lees to set sail for Trinidad, their original destination.

Mr Lee said that although his wife was still very upset about the episode, they were not going to be deterred and would continue their voyage. He said he had patched up the dog's stab wound and removed the bullet, which had lodged near its back legs.

'It was not that hard. The bullet almost came out on its own,' he said. 'The vet has now been around and the dog is almost back on its feet.'

When they arrived in Trinidad the day after the attack, Mr Lee reported the incident to the British High Commission there. The British Embassy in Venezuela has also been informed.

Reports from Trinidad suggest that another British boat was attacked four days earlier in the same area, possibly by the same pirates.

The Foreign Office said piracy is a problem in the area and urges sailors to steer clear.

Mr Lee is now contemplating buying a shotgun to defend his yacht. In the meantime, he and his wife are trying to put the experience behind them.

'We're having a few drops of rum with our evening meal and we fall straight asleep,' he said. 'But as soon as we wake up we are wide awake and the first thought is the attack.

'We just put the kettle on, though, and try to get on with the day.'

48 Hours Ultimatum Ends, Next Action

The 48 hours students set as an ultimatum to Chavez Regime has passed without a honest, trust response by Minister of Interior and Justice, and especially the silence of Vice Minister of Citizen's Security Tarek El-Aizami, who just 6 years ago was a student leader from ULA University protesting for the assassination of a student.

The Student Movement has convoked for a meeting tomorrow morning on the UCV University in Caracas, Venezuela to set the following actions who will start with a series of on-street protests.

Last night, Public Ministry break & entered the offices of Merida State Police, in connection with the investigation with the assassination of the student last week, there was a confirmation that the marble used as a munition to kill the student came from a Police gun.

Situation in Merida ater Students Turmoil: One Student has Died

Saturday July 12th:
the student seriously injured has died.

new versions pointing out, Pro Chavez vandals organized and provoke several vandal acts in Merida state, including looting, apparently in order later authorities blame the students. Is the classy way of act of Chavez Regime.

9:30pm (utc-4): rumors of Chavez Regime could break and enter ULA university and take control of it.

9:20pm (utc-4): Authorities reunite in ULA university.

8:46pm (utc-4): Students from UCV University start gathering for a meeting in the University.

8:36pm (utc-4): apparently the Internet Service is down in Merida state, several radios down. Pro Chavez motorist vandals on street shooting even Police Officers. There are reports of Police Officers wounded.

A day after the tragic incident with the students, Students Groups from Merida state has increased the turmoil, this time taking the local airport landing track.

Also, latest reports inform about looting, Military soldiers start spreading around the City of Merida. There was also protests in Tachira, Aragua, Carabobo and Caracas.

ULA University radio station out. Tear gas everywhere. Impossible get communication with Merida City, all media censored, absolutely no reports.

A turmoil while a group of students from Medicine Faculty of Universidad de Los Andes in Merida were protesting for lack of security turned out on a student seriously wounded, an apparently close to death.

Information about the death of the students was spreaded by state-owned TV station VTV, but later this day, sources say the student is not death but he could be on some kind of cerebral-death, as a result of receive a gun shot on the head, no one known where the gun shot came from.

Pictures of the student lying on the floor blooded, with a 'luchador mask' has spread on Internet, among political forum sites, but I decided not to exhibit that horrid act here, but I could show you a picture from the surrounding areas, where you could see Police Officers near by, they, as usual attacking repressing the student. Is well known the brutal repressions Police from Merida and Tachira state did to students in other protests.

European socialists worried about banning

(El Universal) Timoteo Zambrano, a leader of opposition Un Nuevo Tiempo (UNT) party, wrapped up on Wednesday his visit to the European Parliament in Strasburg, France with the support of the Socialist Group (PSE) against the prohibition on several Venezuelan citizens from running for elected public office.

PSE coordinator for the EuroLat Assembly Luis Yáñez joined Zambrano in his multiple meetings with European parliamentarians, where he briefed on the situation and got the support of intellectuals, political parties and social and cultural organizations.

As Zambrano explained to the Euro-deputies, the Venezuelan Constitution does not acknowledge the power of the Comptroller General to bar citizens from holding public office.

"The arbitrary and incomprehensible action taken by the Comptroller violates, in addition to their National Constitution, significant international commitments that have been ratified outright by the State," said Yáñez.

And following with this story,The High court in Venezuela was requested to declare banning unconstitutional, but they has said anything about, but as they are under entire control of Hugo Chavez, we could guess what the response is going to be.

Students, ONG's and political organizations are prepared to march this Saturday to the High Court to protest against this banning of notorious opposition figures that surround 400, and the Regime has already announced that it will come new 100 political bannings.

WASHINGTON – A report released Monday by the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) accuses the Venezuelan government of sheltering Hizbullah members, helping raise funds for the Lebanese terror organization and laundering money for the group.

According to the report, Venezuelan diplomat Ghazi Nasr al-Din, who is of Lebanese descent, and Venezuelan-Arab businessman Fawzi Kanan are the contacts between Caracas and Hizbullah.

The report also revealed that Nasr al-Din served as Charge d' Affaires at the Venezuelan Embassy in Damascus, Syria and was in charge of diplomatic issues in his country's embassy in Beirut. He brought two Hizbullah representatives in the Lebanese parliament to Venezuela in order to raise funds. The two also inaugurated an Islamic community center in the country.

Following the investigation, assets belonging to Nasr al-Din and Kanan have been frozen and the two have been banned from doing business in the United States or with US citizens and residents.

The Washington Times reported that Kanan is also suspected of planning kidnappings and terror attacks and visiting Iran with Hizbullah members for training purposes.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has denied any affiliation between his country and Hizbullah, the American allegations were only aimed at encouraging the world to take action against Caracas.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro said the allegations came from "the world's No. 1 terrorist, (US President) George Bush. There are no terrorists in Venezuela. If they want to search for terrorists, they should look for them in the White House."

Happy Independece Day

I forgot to congratulate USA readers for their Indepence Day. Well today I kill 2 birds with one shoot because July 5th is the formal Independence Day of Venezuela. To celebrate that Google put a drawn of Simón Bolivar with the flag of Venezuela, like they use to do with other festivity days.

The 5th of July of 1811 was the day of the sign of the Independence Act, the first steps to reach the Independence in Venezuela started on April 19th 1810, a day also festive in Venezuela and many people use to confuse both days. April 19th 1810 is like the second Independence Day. Venezuela reached its Independence from Spain during the last battle of Carabobo, leaded by Simón Bolívar, that was on June 24th 1811. After that battle Spaniard troops surrender.

More about History of Venezuela...

It's very interesting and singular that both countries, Venezuela and USA have their Indepence Day next to each other. But celebrations are quiet differents...

In Venezuela people use to stay in houses resting, maybe watching some protocolars military acts, leaded by the Government in turn, some other prefered to take their families to the beach and malls, also parks. People also raised the Venezuela flag in their houses, as in the rest of the festivity days, but this is a tradition that is loosing followers nowadays, especially in the current administration (or I should say Regime) who changed the flag and the coat of arms.
